The Revd James Power became Vicar of St Mary’s in October 2015 having been Senior Chaplain at Harrow School since 1989. He retains a chaplaincy role at the School.
Born and bought up in Cardiff, he read Chemistry at the University of Nottingham and Theology and Religious Studies at the University of Leeds. He prepared for ordination at the College of the Resurrection, Mirfield before being ordained in the Church in Wales, serving his title in the Parish of Cadoxton-juxta-Barry (made famous by the television series Gavin and Stacey!)
Much of his ministry has been spent in education having taught for over 25 years. He has also served as a governor in a variety of maintained and independent schools, including Adams Grammar School, Newport in Shropshire one of the country’s state boarding schools. He is currently chairs the Education Committee at Edge Grove School, Radlett. He has also been a Governor of St John’s Stanmore Church of England Primary School and he is a former Chairman of the School Chaplains’ Conference (now the School Chaplains and Leaders Association – SCALA).
He plays an active role in the City of London as a member of the Haberdashers’ Company (one of the City’s Livery Companies) for whom he chairs the Charities Committee.
He is married to Fiona; they have two grown up children, Huw and Kitty.
